Retraction: Evaluation of carcinogenic effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF)

The Editor-in-chief of the Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences has decided to retract the article from Bayazit V et al. [1] entitled as: “Evaluation of carcinogenic effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF)” published in Bosn J Basic Med Sci. 2010 Aug;10(3):245-50.
After the editorial office was alerted of possible plagiarism in the article, it conducted thorough investigation and concluded that the article apparently represents plagiarized material from two World Health Organization reports, one European Commission report and other sources. Since this is considered scientific plagiarism and scientific misconduct, Editor-in-chief has decided to withdraw the article. The authors have agreed with the editorial office decision.

Retraction of Redundant Publication

Editor’s Comment:
On Redundant and Duplicate Articles
The availability of large electronic data bases and our ease in querying them makes recognition of redundant and duplicate publications easier. Both are considered to be a type of self-plagiarism. Once an editor recognizes a publication as redundant or duplicate, he or she may choose to inform PubMed with or without warning the author(s).>>>

Notice of Redundant Publication

Korean J Radiol. 2007 May-Jun;8(3):262-262.

Dynamic CT Study" by Tolga Aksoz, Huseyin Akan, Mehmet Celebi, Banu Baglan Sakan, published in Korean Journal of Radiology (2004;5:102-106) is for the most part identical to an article by Huseyin Akan, entitled "Dynamic Upper Airway Soft-Tissue and Caliber Changes in Healthy Subjects and Snoring Patients" published in American Journal of Neuroradiology (2004;25:1846-1850). All members of the ethical committee on publication of the Korean Radiological Society agreed that the two papers belong to the category of redundant publication.

Tokyo University researcher stripped of doctorate for plagiarism

An assistant professor at the University of Tokyo has been stripped of his Ph. D. after he was found to have plagiarized his doctoral thesis, the university has announced.
Anilir Serkan, 36, an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Engineering, was found to have copied about 40 percent of his 376-page doctoral thesis from other sources. It is the first time for the university to take back a doctor's degree due to the plagiarism. He has reportedly admitted to allegations.
Serkan, a native of Turkey, received his Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 2003, and worked as a researcher at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) before he became an assistant professor at the university's architecture department in 2005. He also engaged in various lecture meetings, while running his own blog and writing articles as the "first Turkish astronaut candidate to undergo training at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)." However, after questions were raised among the public about his background and thesis, the university set up an investigation committee last autumn.
"It's extremely regrettable. We will do our utmost to prevent the same trouble from ever happening again, said Vice President Shinichi Sato.
Publisher ChuoKoron-Shinsha Inc. announced that it has halted the publication of his book "Poketto no Naka no Uchu" (Space in Your Pocket).

A Note from the Editor-in-Chief

THYROID
Volume 17, Number 2, 2007

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.
DOI: 10.1089/thy.2007.0044

Manuscript Retraction
It has come to our attention that a paper which was published in the December 2006 issue of Thyroid (‘‘High Prevalence of Thyroid Dysfunction and Autoimmune Thyroiditis in Adolescents After Elimination of Iodine Deficiency in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey’’ by Bastemir M, Emral R, Erdogan G, and Gullu S; Thyroid 2006; 16:1265–1272) had been previously published in The Turkish Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism in January 2006 (1:13–20). For this reason, we have withdrawn this paper from Thyroid and all of its citations from our database. The Journal—to a very large degree—trusts its authors to act in an ethical manner and this unfortunate episode is regrettable.
